Culinary Arts Program
Like our film production program, VOCES's Culinary Arts Program is an LAUSD Career & Technical Education pathway to the food industry. In our culinary arts classes, students learn kitchen safety and cooking skills that directly translate to working in a professional kitchen. Additionally, students learn culinary vocabulary and processes, while working in an industrial kitchen.
Our culinary arts teacher, Ms. Philips, balances student learning between dishes she chooses and entrées in which the students express interest. Students are provided demo lessons and work collaboratively in teams to produce their own cooking. Faculty and students both enjoy the fruits of their labor as many dishes are delicious and shared across campus: From pumpkin cakes to sushi to Mongolian stir-fry to iced coffees that put Starbucks to shame.
Culinary arts students have the option to take the course across multiple years, thereby compounding their knowledge. They are also encouraged to pursue culinary competition and scholarship opportunities. VOCES is proud to already have some award-winning culinary arts students on campus.
