AVID

AVID, or Advancement Via Individual Determination, is a college and career readiness program designed to provide equity in education and beyond. The program serves to level the playing field for traditionally underserved, low-income, and underperforming students. AVID provides a curriculum and framework for these students to access advanced courses and college preparedness skills.

VOCES seeks to implement AVID schoolwide, incorporated AVID strategies such as Philosophical Chairs and Socratic Seminar across the curriculum. VOCES also emphasizes focused note-taking and the WICOR strategies: Writing, Inquiry, Collaboration, Organization, and Reading. Additionally, VOCES offers the AVID elective class across multiple grade levels, providing for vertical articulation and accumulation of skills as students advance through their grade levels.
